History

Dunedain.net was originally an outgrowth of a few committed participants in forum at Asia Times and at the time of its founding was primarily concerned with facilitating the discussion of the writings and themes of the then anonymous columnist Spengler (now also at First Things).

The name ‘Dunedain.net’ was chosen, meaning ‘Men of the West‘ in Sindarian, a language invented by J.R.R. Tolkien.

As the forum enjoyed early success section of participants diverse in origins and ideological orientations, the founders decided to extend the discussion to other related subject manners, creating an online book club, philosophy and theology forum, and inviting other thinkers perceived as interesting by the forum founders.

In the fall of 2007 the forum was discontinued due to lack of time by founders.
Other forums created after the discontinuation include a forum at First Things and ventures at other places, including Asia Times. This forum is being reopened in the fall of 2009 with the hopes of facilitating intellectual discussion related to the preservation of Western civilization.
